What a med spa is
A med spa, short for medical spa, is a clinic that combines the calm setting of a day spa with treatments that are medical procedures. The room may look like a spa, but injections, lasers and many device treatments are medicine, and they are delivered by licensed professionals working under a medical director or a supervising physician, depending on the state.
Some med spas are owned by physicians. Others are owned by nurse practitioners, nurses or business owners who contract a medical director. The setting matters less than who treats you, what training they have and how the clinic handles a consultation.
Treatments med spas usually offer
Menus differ from clinic to clinic, but most med spas build around a familiar core. Each guide below explains what the treatment involves, typical recovery and the questions to ask.
- Botox and other neuromodulators for expression lines
- Dermal fillers and lip filler for volume and shape
- Laser hair removal near me for long-term hair reduction
- Microneedling near me for texture and scarring
- Chemical peel near me at light, medium and deep strengths
- HydraFacial near me and facial near me for skin maintenance
- Skin tightening near me, CoolSculpting near me and body contouring near me

How to choose a med spa
A good first visit starts with a consultation, not a sale. Before you book, look for clear answers to a few plain questions.
- Who performs the treatment, and what is their license and training?
- Who is the medical director, and are they reachable if something goes wrong?
- Which product or device does the clinic use, and why for your goal?
- What does the consultation cover, and is it separate from the treatment visit?
- What happens if you need a follow-up or a correction?
- How is the price built, per area, per session or per product?
If a clinic rushes you, avoids questions about who treats you or promises a guaranteed result, keep looking. A licensed provider should be comfortable telling you that a treatment is not right for you.
Licensed providers and state rules
Every state sets its own rules on who may perform medical aesthetic treatments, who must supervise and whether a physician has to examine you first. Rules differ for injections, lasers and deeper peels, and they change over time. That is why we never state that a specific title may or may not treat you. Ask the clinic who performs your treatment and under whose supervision, and check the license with your state's licensing board.
Performed by licensed medical professionals. Who may perform it depends on your state's rules.
General information, not medical advice. A licensed provider decides whether a treatment is right for you.
How the directory works
Our directory is built from open data. Business locations come from OpenStreetMap under the Open Database License, and medical practices such as dermatology and plastic surgery offices are matched with the public NPI Registry. We do not copy listings, reviews, photos or prices from map apps or review sites.
- Unclaimed profile, details from open data
- Claimed profile
An unclaimed profile shows only what the open data contains: name, address, website and opening hours where they are tagged, and treatment categories where they are tagged. A claimed profile is managed by the clinic itself, which proves ownership with a code sent to an email on its own website domain or a code placed on its website. Claimed clinics can add a treatment menu and set from prices, so prices appear only when a clinic enters them.
Some city pages show one listing labeled Sponsored. That is a paid placement by a claimed clinic, and the label is always visible.
Every profile has a link to suggest a correction or removal. Removed profiles stay removed when the data is refreshed. Read more on where our directory data comes from.

What a med spa visit costs
Price varies by clinic, ask for a quote. What drives it is the area treated, the product or device, the number of sessions, the provider's training, the city and how often you return for maintenance. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons publishes national average fees each year in its procedural statistics report, and those averages exclude facility costs. For the details by treatment, read Botox cost, lip filler cost and laser hair removal cost.
Med spa questions
Is a med spa a medical practice?
Many treatments offered at a med spa are medical procedures, so they are performed by licensed professionals under a medical director or supervising physician, depending on the state. The spa setting does not change that. Ask who treats you and who supervises.
Who performs treatments at a med spa?
Depending on the state and the treatment, it may be a physician, a nurse practitioner, a physician assistant, a registered nurse or a licensed esthetician. State rules decide who may perform which treatment, so ask the clinic and check the license with your state board.
Does it cost anything to search or request an appointment?
No. Searching the directory and sending an appointment request are always free for visitors. Clinics pay a monthly subscription to manage a claimed profile and receive requests.
What does Unclaimed profile mean?
It means the listing comes from open data and the clinic has not yet taken it over. It shows only what the open data contains. When a clinic claims its profile, it can add a treatment menu, opening hours and from prices.
How do I correct or remove a listing?
Every profile has a link to suggest a correction or removal. We review each request, and a removed profile stays removed when the data is refreshed.
Can I see prices before I visit?
Prices appear only when a claimed clinic enters them as from prices. Otherwise the price varies by clinic, so ask for a quote during the consultation.
