Masseter Botox Cost and Price for Jaw Botox

Masseter Botox usually costs more per visit than forehead Botox, because the jaw muscle is larger and both sides are treated in one session. Clinics quote it per unit, per area or as a set jaw price, so the number you hear depends on how the clinic charges, who injects and your city. The American Society of Plastic Surgeons lists an average of $435 for botulinum toxin injections across all areas, and a jaw plan often sits above that figure. Search clinics near you below and ask each one for a written quote.

How much does masseter Botox cost

There is no fixed national price for masseter Botox. Your total is set by the amount of product your provider plans for both masseter muscles, multiplied by the clinic's price per unit, or by the clinic's flat jaw fee if it charges per area. Because the masseter is a big chewing muscle, a jaw plan usually needs more product than a single upper face area, which is why quotes for jaw Botox are higher than quotes for forehead lines at the same clinic. Price varies by clinic, ask for a quote.

What changes the price of jaw Botox

  • Size of your masseter muscles. A strong, bulky muscle from clenching or grinding usually needs a bigger plan than a smaller one. Only your provider can judge this after feeling the muscle while you clench.
  • Your goal. Easing clenching and slimming a square lower face are both common reasons, and a provider may plan them differently.
  • Brand of neuromodulator. Botox, Dysport, Xeomin and Jeuveau are priced differently, and units are not interchangeable between brands. Our page on botox vs dysport explains why.
  • Who injects. A board certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon, a physician led practice and a nurse injector at a med spa often charge different fees.
  • City and neighborhood. A clinic in Manhattan or Beverly Hills usually charges more than one in a smaller metro, for the same plan.
  • First visit or repeat visit. Some clinics charge a consultation fee on the first visit, and some credit it toward treatment.
  • Combined areas. Many people add forehead or frown lines in the same visit, which raises the total but may lower the price per area.

Why is masseter Botox more expensive than forehead Botox

Masseter Botox is more expensive because the masseter is one of the strongest muscles in the face, and it is treated on the left and the right in the same visit. A forehead plan treats thin, flat muscles. The jaw plan has to relax a thick muscle enough to make a difference to clenching or to the shape of the lower face, and that takes more product. Since most clinics price neuromodulators by the unit, more product means a higher bill. Placement also takes care: the provider maps the muscle and avoids the muscles you use to smile, which is skill you pay for.

04

How often you pay and what a year of masseter Botox costs

Masseter results build slowly over several weeks, and for many people they last longer than in the upper face, often several months. Most people who keep up with treatment return a few times a year at first. Some providers find that the muscle stays smaller over time and the gap between visits grows. To estimate your yearly cost, multiply the price of one jaw visit by the number of visits your provider expects for you in the first year, then ask whether that number usually drops in year two. Our article on how long does botox last covers why timing differs from person to person.

05

Does insurance cover masseter Botox for TMJ or clenching

Insurance rarely covers masseter Botox. Jaw slimming is cosmetic, so health plans treat it as out of pocket. Treating the masseter for clenching, grinding or TMJ symptoms is an off-label use of neuromodulators in the United States, and most plans do not pay for it either, although a few people get partial coverage after a physician documents the medical need. Many people pay with an HSA or FSA card when the treatment is for a medical reason, so ask your plan administrator first. Clinics often offer memberships, loyalty programs from the product makers or payment plans.

06

Is cheap masseter Botox worth the risk

A low price is worth a closer look, not a quick booking. A quote far below every other clinic nearby can mean a smaller plan than your muscle needs, which may give little visible change and send you back sooner. It can also mean diluted product, an unlicensed injector or a setting with no medical practice behind it. Ask how many units are in the plan, which brand is used, who injects and what their license is. Compare two or three quotes from licensed clinics before you decide.

FAQ

How much does masseter Botox cost?

It depends on the plan your provider sets for both sides of your jaw and on how the clinic charges. Jaw plans usually cost more than forehead plans at the same clinic. The ASPS lists $435 as the average for botulinum toxin injections across all areas, which is a broad orientation, not a quote.

How many units of Botox for masseter?

Your provider sets the amount after feeling the muscle while you clench, and it differs from person to person. Masseter plans generally use noticeably more product than an upper face area because the muscle is larger and both sides are treated. Ask for the number of units in writing with your quote.

Is masseter Botox worth it?

Many people who clench or grind, or who want a softer lower face, decide it is worth it. It is not the right fit if your jaw width comes mostly from bone, which a neuromodulator cannot change. A consultation with a licensed provider is the honest way to find out.

How often do you need masseter Botox?

Results usually last several months, often longer than in the forehead. Many people return a few times a year at first, and some find the gap grows as the muscle gets smaller. Your provider can tell you what to expect.

Is jaw Botox covered by insurance?

Usually not. Jaw slimming is cosmetic, and masseter treatment for clenching or TMJ is an off-label use that most plans do not cover. Some people use an HSA or FSA when the treatment is for a medical reason.
